Introduction to Adobe Photoshop "Tidying up Art"
Project 2: Egg abstraction and Still life
This was our second project in class. The assignment was to take photos of an egg and also take photos of a still life. These are my top 3 choices from the egg photos I took, and top 3 choices out of my photos for still life. This project was really fun for me because it involved a lot of creativity. I wish that my egg photos were stronger, but I'm happy with the final project overall. One thing I'm going to work on is making sure that I take my time during every shoot. I rushed a little bit on the egg photos so a lot of them came out blurry and couldn't be used. Next project I'm going to really take my time and make sure the camera settings are correct.

Recent Photos
These are some of my favorite photos I've recently shot and I thought I would share! I decided to put all these photos in black and white because I'm inspired by Roger Ballen. On prof. Holcome's blog she posted a quote by Roger Ballen that struck a cord with me and made me realize the importance of a black and white photo.
"I just feel black-and-white photography is far more abstract of an art form. It doesn't make any pretense that it captures reality, which color photography tends to do. What you're seeing is camera reality, digital reality, it's just another form of reality but it doesn't necessarily mimic the reality that the mind sees. I've always felt there was something a little artificial about color photography; I like the abstraction and the bare essentialness of black-and-white. But that's just me."

Reading Response Chapter 6
Chapter 6 is all about the printing process that is involved in photography. Printing is a very important because it is the final step. I've realized that in photography, printing is a delicate process that must be done correctly. Having a working printer is essential. If the printer is clogged at all or low on a certain color it will come out in your prints. It's important to look very closely at your print to make sure there aren't any imperfections that could be caused by the printer.
This chapter also touches on getting your prints matted. I have yet to dry mount any of my prints but I'm relatively familiar with the process because I've had to do it for drawings. Mounting the print is important though because it really makes it look professional. Presenting the final product of your image is a rewarding moment so you want to make sure that it is done well and the photo is the best quality it can be.

Reading Response Chapter 5
The 5th Chapter outlines the basics of editing photos. In my opinion I think the editing process has just as much importance as the process of actually taking the photo. I have learned in this class that editing makes a WORLD of difference in a photograph. This is why it's extremely important to learn how to use the editing program to the best of its capability. The editing also allows for more creativity and personality to be shown through the image. It can also add to the photographers style of photography.
This chapter has lots of examples of photoshop which I'm not familiar with but the information was still helpful because Lightroom is similar to photoshop. So far I like Lightroom a lot but someday I would like to start using photoshop.

Reading Response Chapter 4
Chapter 4 discusses the technicalities of photography. It talks about importing, printing, editing etc. I liked this chapter because it gives a lot of information about how to make sure your photos are the best quality they can be. We talked about this in class when Prof. Holcome showed us what happened to an image after a man uploaded it to Instagram 20 times. After a while the image starts to almost fade away completely. This is because every time a JPEG file is opened it loses pixels. The more times a photo is saved, moved or opened the more information it loses. This is important to think about when editing your photos.
This chapter also talks about the importance of shooting in RAW rather than JPEG. I'm glad that I've already switched over to the RAW file format because it really makes a difference in the quality of the photo. RAW files take up more space but it's worth it because all the information is there. A raw file just allows more editing control which is something I really like.

Reading Response Chapter 3
Chapter 3 talks all about lighting and exposure. One thing that I have learned while taking photos for class is that lighting is ESSENTIAL. This chapter explains the importance of lighting in a very simple way. If the photo isn't exposed correctly in camera, it's either going to be blown out with too much light or its going to be too dark. Of course it's easy enough to brighten or darken the photo in Lightroom, but that doesn't always work. If the photo is heavily brightened using an editing program the photo is going to start losing quality and increase in noise.
The chapter also talks about histograms which we've gone over in class. I haven't gotten into the habit of looking at my histogram in camera, however I know it's important because it's a great way of checking your color balance and exposure. Chapter 3 made me realize that I need to work on taking my time finding the proper settings for the environment and lighting situation that I'm in.

Homework #3 Color Theory
RED
Classmates top choices:
My top choices:
In color theory there are three different categories: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary
Primary colors are Red, Blue and Yellow. All other colors in the rainbow can be obtained by mixing these colors.
Secondary colors are the result of mixing two primary colors together. For example, Orange is a secondary color because it's the mixture of Red and Yellow.
Tertiary colors are a mixture of 50% primary color and 50% secondary color. The primary and secondary color must be adjacent on the color wheel.
