Reading Response Chapter 3

Chapter 3 talks all about lighting and exposure. One thing that I have learned while taking photos for class is that lighting is ESSENTIAL. This chapter explains the importance of lighting in a very simple way. If the photo isn't exposed correctly in camera, it's either going to be blown out with too much light or its going to be too dark. Of course it's easy enough to brighten or darken the photo in Lightroom, but that doesn't always work. If the photo is heavily brightened using an editing program the photo is going to start losing quality and increase in noise.

The chapter also talks about histograms which we've gone over in class. I haven't gotten into the habit of looking at my histogram in camera, however I know it's important because it's a great way of checking your color balance and exposure. Chapter 3 made me realize that I need to work on taking my time finding the proper settings for the environment and lighting situation that I'm in.
